When travelling Americans have to pretend they're Canadian to avoid trouble, wouldn't that make them think...?

..."Jeez, maybe our government is making a real f#ckup of our foreign policy. Maybe we shouldn't go round the world bullying people and overthrowing their governments, that way everyone might not hate us". If more Americans felt this way, maybe the US government might listen.
