Should i i ask Dustin carpenter out , after he just broke up with his girlfriend or should i wait ?

Dustin carpenter is an old high school crush and now that he is single , i want to ask him out , but i am a little nervous too , he just broke up with his ex-girlfriend . I don't know why i am recrushing on him , i still have feelings of course for him , but i don't know if he feels the same way , and I am afraid to ask him , how he feels , I realy good at talk to guy friends , but when i want it to come to more than just being friends , like i did in high school, thinkings didn't go right then i think that might happen again so please help me .
