Proper way of getting rid of a virgin mary statue?

I found a statue of the virgin and some crucifixes in a box in my attic. How do I get rid of them. I know it's a silly question but do I just throw them away or have the somebody from the the congregation throw it away? I just don't know whats the proper way of going about this. Should I give it to someone who believes in it?
